Valley to Honor Esteemed Member:

In February of 1945, the United States Marines landed on the island of Iwo Jima to help further the cause of liberty in ending World War II.

On February 9, 2013, the Valley of Boston will honor one of our heroes and a veteran of the Iwo Jima campaign by naming the one day class in honor of Bro. and Ill∴ Robert Johnston, 33º, DSA.

Born and raised in Somerville, educated at Boston University and Wentworth Institute, Johnston's four years as a Marine included action at Saipan and Iwo Jima, led to a battlefield commision, and a Bronze Star commission.

Bob recently celebrated 66 years of marriage with his late wife Claire. He worked as an elevator safety inspector for Payne Elevator Company. Bob joined Somerville Lodge in 1957, and served as Worshipful Master of Washington Lodge in 1968 and The Masters Lodge in 1997.

Bob was coroneted an Honorary Member of the Supreme Council, Scottish Rite, 33º, on September 25th, 1990. I hope you can join us for this special day, and I hope you can extend the opportunity to your Blue Lodge brethren to be a part of the Scottish Rite experience on this special occasion.

Fraternally,

Philip A. Drouin

Member Updates

In this section, we plan to communicate updates about developments in the lives of our members and their families. We welcome your submissions of announcements in regards to life achievements, developments, sad news, and any other topic that may arise in connection to the members of our fraternity. If you would like to submit something to go out in a future electronic mailing, we have a form you can fill out to submit your information to us.

We are earnestly striving to connect you to one another by providing another avenue to communicate this information; there are several brothers who may not be as able to attend our functions as they once were, and as a result, this may be one of the best ways to keep them in touch with the organization.

Our first announcement is in regards to the Treasurer of the Valley of Boston, Ill∴ Paul W. Rolston, 33º. Paul's son is an active duty Captain in the United States Army and is in the process of being deployed to Afghanistan. Please keep Paul, his son, and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

It is with heavy hearts that we must inform you of the recent passing of Claire Johnston, the wife of Ill∴ Robert Johnston, 33º, DSA.

Bob has been a valuable member and a great friend to many in the Valley and Freemasonry in general for many years. We are eternally grateful for the time Claire has given the Valley both herself and by allowing Bob to be with us over the years. Please give your condolences to Bob by sending cards to the following address:
