Dedication to the Craft

Thrice Potent Master's Update:

As an officer of the Lodge of Perfection, I can personally vouch for how much time we spend asking our fellow blue lodge brethren to invest in supporting our Scottish Rite activities. My fear is that sometimes our appreciation for the work our friends and brothers do elsewhere gets lost in translation.

One of the things that  has always impressed me the most is the dedication of our Scottish Rite Masons to the Craft in general.  Occasionally, we hear the criticism that people leave the Symbolic Lodge behind when "other bodies" become the focus of their attention.

Certainly, there may be some truth to the statement in some individual cases. I assure you, however, that in my own personal experience, I have found evidence of that critique to be hard to come by.

As Thrice Potent Master, I try and stay on top of our workers; how they and their families are getting on, and what they are up to in other parts of their lives. The reality is that I am continually amazed at the involvement and dedication that our members give to their local Lodges and other Masonic activities.

I feel that a tip of the hat is in order to just a few people that immediately come to my mind for their dedication to the Craft:

  • Antonio Lopez, newly installed Monarch of Taleb Grotto
  • Bob Doherty, Grand Lecturer, Treasurer, Greater Boston Dyslexia Center
  • Harlan Woods, Grand Lecturer, 2nd Ceremonial Master, Aleppo Shrine
  • Joe DeNicola, Board Member of METC, DDGM of the 18th District, Trustee of the Lodge of Perfection
  • Arthur Dunham, immediate PM of the 8th Lodge of Instruction, and PM of William North Lodge
  • Paul Ricciardi, Grand Lodge MMRL Committee, Board of Governors of the Greater Boston Dyslexia Center
  • Bob Brown, Greater Boston Dyslexia Board, Aleppo Shrine Membership Committee
  • A. David Browne, Treasurer, Boston University Lodge, and instrumental in its re-establishment
  • Joe Turner, MMRL
  • Mason Russell, Grand Lodge Board of Directors
  • Bob Jolly, Grand Lodge Board of Directors, and Interim Business Operations Manager

There are so many others who serve as officers of their lodges, on committees, or who just show up every meeting and offer their support simply by their presence alone. To them, and to all those I have missed, thank you for your efforts as well!

These men, and so many others are mirrored by the same dedication in Giles F. Yates Council, Mt. Olivet Chapter and Massachusetts Consistory.

When you see active Masons, there is a good chance that they are also Scottish Rite Masons.  How does your commitment to the Craft stack up? There is a very good chance that some organization is waiting for you to fill a hole. How can you contribute? Never forget that there will always be a place for you to channel your enthusiasm for the Craft if you look hard enough for it.

Fraternally,

H. Robert Huke, III

Thrice Potent Master

One Day Class, February 9th, 2013

In February of 1945, the United States Marines landed on the island of Iwo Jima to help further the cause of liberty in ending World War II.

On February 9th, 2013, the Valley of Boston will honor one of our very own heroes, and a veteran of that Iwo Jima campaign, Bro. and Ill∴ Robert Johnston, 33°, DSA.

We are asking that all Valley members go back to their lodges and ask non-Scottish Rite Masons to become a part of the Rite in this special class. Now is the time to act! Bob is one of the best men and Masons we have ever known.

Download some applications to spread the word about this upcoming class! The deadline for registrations is February 1st, 2013. Sponsor a candidate today!
