Meet the New Membership Chairman!

This past December, the Valley of Boston saw its Membership Chairman step down. Bro. Alfredo Canhoto did a splendid job of spreading Scottish Rite Masonry and promoting new initiatives for the valley. As we congratulate Bro. Canhoto on a job well done, we also welcome his replacement and wish him the best of luck. Your new Membership Chairman for the Valley of Boston is Brother Terry W. Griffith, Jr., 32°!

Born in Pittsburgh, PA, Brother Griffith spent most of his adolescent life in Hillsborough, NJ. Coming from a family of five, he spent his time as a youth involved with the Boy Scouts and the Civil Air Patrol. For anyone who is unsure (this webmaster included), CAP is a civilian-military organization that teaches aerospace education along with search and rescue skills for young people. Terry graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelors in Finance. He moved to Massachusetts in 1998 and jumped headfirst into Freemasonry.

Bro. Griffith spoke proudly of his family’s masonic history that extends multiple generations back. His great uncle, Ray Griffith, helped design the Supreme Council building in Lexington. Terry knew that it was a matter of when, not if, he would join the craft.

Terry took his first steps in Freemasonry through an open house where he met his future brothers in Pequossette Lodge. After deciding Pequossette was the lodge for him, Bro. Griffith applied and was raised in 2011. Excited about the craft, he rose through the ranks quickly and became Worshipful Master in 2015 (he is currently serving the second year of his two-year term).

With his family’s activity in Scottish Rite, Terry’s journey through the 4° to the 32° was only a matter of time. Past Most Wise Master Kenneth Blake was his sponsor for the Valley of Boston. After joining the Valley of Boston in 2011, Bro. Griffith got active right away by working with Mount Olivet Rose Croix.

Alfredo Canhoto convinced Terry to join the Membership Committee. The committee tested several new avenues for promotion and membership and Terry is excited about their new initiatives. One of these includes targeted events in the cities and towns under the Valley of Boston's umbrella.

Brother Griffith lives in Watertown, MA, with his wife Elaina and their two daughters, Emma and Lily. In his spare time, Terry enjoys fishing and golfing. He is also a Past Commodore of the Allen Harbor Yacht Club and Past President of the Watertown Rotary Club!

If you would like to congratulate Terry on his new position or offer up your support, send him an email at membership@scottishriteboston.org.
